Sonoma County’s Climate Action and Resiliency Division and Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District have collaborated to create the Sonoma County Climate Resilient Lands Strategy, a document designed to provide structure and guidance for climate-related efforts, with a focus on natural and working lands. The Strategy was approved by the Board of Supervisors on September 13, 2022.
Read the StrategyFor larger projects that require additional funding and resources, the County of Sonoma has created the Vegetation Management Project Grant Program to support vegetation management activities in high-risk areas and near key ecosystems. This funding will support the work of local fire districts, schools, communities with Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPPs), Resource Conservation Districts, community groups, nonprofit organizations, licensed foresters, Tribal entities, and technical advisors. Funding will not be provided to individual landowners or private companies.

University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) to actively collaborate to develop the Sonoma County Decision Support Framework (DSF), an integrated set of tools that operate at multiple scales to enable strategic investments in fuel load reduction, vegetation management, community health and safety, and the long-term resilience of Sonoma County watersheds.
The Decision Support Framework consists of the Wildfire Resilience Planner, a landscape-level asset prioritization tool, and the Wildfire Fuel Mapper, a parcel-level planning tool.
Wildfire prevention, preparation and response are part of Sonoma County Regional Parks’ ongoing stewardship across our 15,000-acre, 50-plus park system, as wildfire has become increasingly common throughout Sonoma County, California and the West.
